In June 2014, Savannah was selected by Lumina Foundation to be one of seventy-five communities across the U.S. to implement a Community Partnership for Attainment (CPA) effort. Savannah Graduates is a place-based effort focused on improving outcomes by leveraging existing resources, and by implementing a comprehensive community completion agenda. In July 2014, executives from partner organizations established an Executive Council and a steering Core Team to formally establish a partnership whose focus is on increasing post-secondary completion and workforce development in Savannah-Chatham County.
Founding Savannah Graduates’ partner organizations include: Armstrong State University, Chatham County Government, City of Savannah/Coastal Workforce Services, Coastal Georgia Indicators Coalition, Georgia Power, Gulfstream Aerospace, Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, Savannah Economic Development Authority, Savannah State University, Savannah Technical College, Step Up Savannah, and the United Way of the Coastal Empire.
The partnership’s overarching goal is to increase completion by conferring an additional 16,000 professional credentials and degrees by 2025.
Savannah Graduates is the result of scaled work in the community and a recognition of the highly successful College Access Mentoring Information and Outreach (CAMINO) program. The Latino Student Success effort was established in 2011 by the three public institutions of higher education in Savannah and several community partners.
